Duke pulls away late for victory over North Carolina
Wednesday night was the first Duke / North Carolina battle of 2010 and round one went to the Blue Devils who used a late run in the second half to pull away for a 10 point victory. The Blue Devils did not shoot the ball well but used rebounding and defense to key the 64-54 victory in Chapel Hill.

The Virus of Personal Expectations
Loved this excerpt from the late David Halberstam in his book ” The Education of a Coach ,” about Bill Belichick. In 2004, after the Patriots won their second Super Bowl in three seasons, NE coach Bill Belichick “went to Florida to visit with Jimmy Johnson , who he thought was the one coach out there who knew the most about what would happen once a team had shown itself able to play at so lofty a level, Johnson’s Cowboys having won the Super Bowl after the 1992 and 1993 seasons. The two men were friends in the delicate sense of friendship that football coaches are allowed — in the we-may-be-on-opposite-sides-of-the-field-but-we-have-similar-problems-and-similar-enemies-and-we-may-need-each-other-yet-you-coaching-for-me-or-you-coaching-for-you kind of friendship

Rachel Alexandra won’t run in Breeders’ Cup
The filly Rachel Alexandra will not run in the Breeders’ Cup, despite an announcement Friday that the winner’s share of the Classic would be increased by $1 million if she and the undefeated mare Zenyatta were to take on the best older horses in the world November 7 at Santa Anita Park. Adding the $1 million would have raised the base winner’s share of the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic to $3.7 million, the richest of any race in the world this year. Jess Jackson said late Friday he was humbled by the interest Rachel Alexandra has generated, but “Rachel already has completed a brilliant long campaign.” Earlier, in an effort to lure Rachel Alexandra to the Breeders’ Cup to run against undefeated Zenyatta, the Breeders’ Cup said it would add $1 million to the winner’s share of the Classic if both horses ran.
