Super Saver Ready for Preakness

In his first trip to the track since his victory in the first leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, WinStar Farm’s homebred Super Saver looked like anything but a tired horse as he jogged an easy mile over the Churchill Downs strip Wednesday morning. “He came out of it well; I’m actually surprised how well,” said trainer Todd Pletcher, who saddled his first Derby winner in Super Saver. “It’s always tough when you have to run back (in the Preakness) on short rest, but all the signs we’re seeing are very positive.” Super Saver is scheduled to head to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore for the Preakness Stakes on a flight on May 12, but just who will be alongside the son of Maria’s Mon is to be determined

Spending the evening with Coach K

Last night I had the pleasure of listening to Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski speak to a sold out crowd in Rapid City, SD as he was the guest speaker for the John T. Vucurevich foundation. I never thought that I would get to see Coach K clear out here where I am from (90 miles from Rapid City) and I was lucky enough to find a couple of tickets to the event on craigslist the night before the event

Duke’s defense was huge on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Devils shut down a hot shooting CAL team in the second round of the NCAA tournament to advance to the Sweet 16 where they will take on Purdue.  Nolan Smith slapped the floor in Jacksonville to get the defense going and he shut down the PAC10 player of the year Jerome Randle as he only allowed Randle to score 12 points. Smith on the other hand scored a team high 20 points as the Blue Devils posted a 68-53 victory. “I wanted to pick him up as early as I could,” Smith said.
